Afzelia Burl
Afzelia Burl(Afzelia xylocarpa) is also called Makamong and it originates in South East Asia. This particular piece is of exceptional quality. There are a variety of beautiful salmon/pink and orange shades that are interplayed with exquisite undulating figure, bark and heartwood/sap wood interface. Afzelia burl is one of the more expensive burls.. Enjoy while this piece lasts.

There are some natural edge barrettes also available... Very limited..Please inquire.

Amboyna Burl
Solid Amboyna Burl of the quality that I have usually ends up as veneer. This quality is hard to get and the demand for it is quite high..... my most expensive wood.

Mesquite Burl
Mesquite Burl (Prosopis glandulos): This wood species boasts beautiful cinnamon overtones and it will complement any hair colour. The piece of Mesquite Burl that I have is of the highest quality: lots of burls eyes and swirls.

Ziricote Burl
Ziricote Burl comes from Central America. I had purchased this piece of burl in 1994. I did not know what I had purchased, however, as time passed I realized that I had a fantastic piece of burl that was hard to obtain. This is premium burl, the black dominant lines and the cream blond sap wood look great together.

Each barrette is unique as well as beautiful.

Red Malle Burl
This is an Australian Burl; it is extremely hard and takes a beautiful finish. This barrette design series captures the transition zone between the heartwood and the new growth sapwood. I am always amazed how the cream colour of the sapwood turns red.

Over time, Red Malle Burl accepts a gorgeous patina. You will have to wait for that.

Black Cherry Burl
My black cherry burls originate from New Brunswick, Canada. These burls are premium grade and have all the visual flavours that cherry burls have to offer. There are burl eyes, burl swirls, speckling and resin impregnated growth rings. These physical features are compliments with an array of browns, pinks, oranges and yellows

Briar Burl
Beautiful orange-pink with radial lines interlaced with a light speckling of bark inclusions (some spalting and rough on the blades). This is a European burl that grows underground. Tobacco pipe artisans prize it... I think, however, that I have found a better use for it.

Buckeye Burl
This is a root burl from the US. It is a pristine lemon / dusk lemon combination, which boasts excellent figure and excellent contrast..... the only wood that I know where the spalting is a pale smoky blue.

California Redwood Lace Burl
I imported this wood directly from an international bowl turner. He sold me a few pieces that he removed from his bowl sculptures. I traded with him, a few barrettes for his wife and daughter for the burl offcuts. The wood is of premium grade and is a red-pink lots of character. (Thanks Gary)

Manzanita Root Burl
This is a root burl fount in the US. These are irregular shaped "Blobs" of root that often have soil, rocks and other surprises upon cutting. No two barrettes are alike..... this is why I included two pictures. The wood is a deep crimson which is accented with a golden natural edge....A real eye catcher.

Thuya Burl
Thuya Burl comes from Morocco: It grows underground as a root burl. I flew to Ontario (Canada) to hand select this burl from my favorite wood suplier. It is the utmost premium quality and was worth the trip. It does not get any better then this: honey golden dusk brown with extremely tight burl eyes; I mean Really!
