Arizona Desert Iron Wood
Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) comes from the Sonora Desert. This desert tree is one of the heaviest woods found in North America. The dense heartwood varies in color from a light tan to golden brown to chocolate brown often with darker striping.

As with wine, Desert Ironwood matures with age. The best colored material comes from dead trees/logs that may have rested on the hot desert sand and baked for decades. It is a slow growing tree, exceptionally hard and thus takes an exceptional glass-like polish

This particular piece of Iron Wood is of the highest quality: a lot of depth and colour.

The wood tone is a beautiful rustic rich red/orange with a lot of visual depth. Here is a Click here

Lignum Vitae
Lignum Vitae (Guaiacum officinale) originates from Central America. It is so hard and dense that this material was used to manufacture ball bearings for boat propellers and shafts. It has a self-lubricating quality. Actually, some ship builders still use this material as propeller shaft supports. It is also very expensive.

The wood tone is a beautiful oilve colour. Here is another picture

Olive Wood grows in many parts of the world. I obtain mine from the Mediterranean regions of Italy and Spain. Olive wood embodies caramel, brown and orange tones and has innate warmth that is hard to match in any other wood.

A friend of mine sends me this species. He lives in Georgetown, Guyana... Thanks Dave. Snakewood is called the "Aristocrat of woods". It grows in marshy regions and is extremely dense. It blunts in literally seconds any blade in which it comes in contact. Snakewood is sold by the pound.
